Artist's Description
As I painted in the morning this shop constantly evolved. In the morning it was a place for people to buy their breakfast puris and tea and pan. The mama gave her father the baby to hold while he cooked puris and she did other things. Eventually she sat down to knit. Gradually a teenage boy started bringing out kites until they filled one whole doorway. Then he took the baby inside and the breakfast food got cleaned away and other items were brought out to fill the table and sell. The shop had made a total transformation in two hours from a breakfast counter to a kite shop to a general store. Meanwhile pushcarts come wheeling by with their owners calling out their wares. People stop to buy and chat. Motocycles come down this tiny street and it is filled with children on their way to school, and fathers on their way to work. There is nothing stagnant in India. It is always fascinating, changing, and enjoyable to watch life.
