Description
In the village of Betawar, half an hour south of the city of Varanasi this Shiva temple rests on the Ganges River. Just below the banks is a ferry to take you across the river. The window of our school library overlooks this beautiful scene. The tree in the painting I did called Ganges Tree is just a little bit to the right of this spot. And although these two paintings were done in different years, they seem quite similar to me in brush strucks and feeling.

Thank you for your kind comments. The day before I had painted this I had been teaching teachers how to paint. Most of them had never painted in their lives and the few who had painted before had never painted from observation, nor had they seen painting with palette knives. The day I painted this these same teachers were coming into the library for a teacher training program and had time to observe me paint. Luckily, it was one of those days where everything went right instead of wrong!
